Our first week at Hillel was great, but our second week was awesome. The boys are learning so much. We are really working on our writing and reading skills. Have the boys practice these skills by making shopping lists, writing letters, or just plain coloring. They love learning how to write.
We began encoding words on the pocket chart. It wasn't so easy coming up with words that had a c,t,s,a, and m in them. Some of the words we encoded were cat, mat, sat, am, and Sam. But our genious group also came up with act! How do you like that for first grade thinking.
We also began our unit on apples. We are going to discover apples through our 5 senses. We started with what we saw. We saw different shapes, colors and designs on the apples. Some were larger than others and some were more round. Some had stems and some did not. We also began to discuss the different stages of apple tree growth beginning with the seed.
I hope everyone received the note about the pennies and the pushka we sent home. We had a lot of fun in class decorating it.
Have a sweet, healthy and happy new year to all the families of my wonderful first grade boys class.
